The thoughts and prayers that have supported us
- We are very sorry to hear of your father’s passing. It was so nice that you and Corrine were there with him.
- Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
- Hi John - please pass on my condolences to Gerrie. You're right - her Dad
may have actually been accepting and even relieved when he knew the end
was near but its still emotional for those left behind - so many
memories tugging at the heart. Give her a hug from us.
- I am sorry to hear it - please extend to Gerrie my sympathies.
- Please extend our condolences to Gerrie. Even when it is time, and not unexpected, it is still difficult.
- I had not checked my emails for a couple of days, and was saddened to hear of the passing of Corrine's father. What a wonderful way to go, surrounded by loved ones. Somehow even at 101, we are never ready to say goodbye. Our
love and prayers extend to all the family as you grieve the loss of
this great man and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Hugs and prayers,
- My two tutoring students (brother and sister) arrived today with a huge bouquet of flowers and a handwritten card. The bouquet was so large I had to separate into three vases! While I was tutoring, another friend arrived with another bouquet - already in a vase. We are all truly blessed with the support from our friends.
- [Two friends] stopped by this afternoon. They brought me a prayer shawl that had been passed around in church on Sunday and blessed by the members of the congregation. I have blessed so many but never needed to be on the receiving end. There’s a lot of love in that shawl. Plus, I received two beautiful cards. We are certainly receiving a lot of support.
- So glad that you both received all this support today, it makes you feel warm and loved. Love – Birgit
- [A friend] just called to let me know that your dad has passed away. Please know that I am thinking of you and sending my sincere sympathy. I am sure that this is bitter/sweet - Corrine had mentioned that your dad was ready to go onwards! Still, no matter the age, it is hard to say goodbye. I am so glad that you were able to spend as much time as you have with him and that you were able to be there when he passed. With love and a big hug,
- I am so sorry to hear about your dad’s death. I am sure that in spite of his long life it is still a shock that will take time to fully absorb. But what a life! I don’t know if he talked about it but imagine the changes between his youth and today – Air travel, radio, TV, trips to the moon, probes to the other planets, computers, the Internet, etc. etc. We should all be so lucky! My condolences to you and Gerrie and families.
- Good morning Gerrie I am just sending you a confirmation of our conversation of this morning. I knew your dad as we had served on the executive together for a number of years. He taught me a lot about the Legion during the time we worked together. We talked about a Tribute service for your father. We will be honoured to do this service at a time and place that you choose. Brent Craig, Veterans Services Officer, Westboro Branch
- Hello Gerrie and Corrine One of my favourite verses, written by King David: "...weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning". (Psalm 30:5 New KJV) I hope this brings you some measure of comfort. Take care.
- I am saddened to hear that your dad has passed away and may he rest in peace. I fully understand what you and your family are going through during this time of grief and loss.
- So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing.. my sincere condolences to you and the family.. no matter what age, it is always hard to lose someone so close to you. How fortunate it was though that you and Corrine and Birgit were able to be there with him at home so that he was surrounded by his family. I am sure you will all have many great family memories to share.
- Gerrie I am so very sorry about your Dad. [We] are thinking of you all. This is the time for you to be with family and to take the time you need.
- Hi Aunt Gerrie - I just wanted to say how sorry I am with the passing of Granddad. I realize he must be at peace but he was such a remarkable man so very much loved. I just wanted you to know I am thinking of you. Big hugs and thoughts your way.
- I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad. It’s a monumental loss at any age. I still can’t believe my Dad’s gone - I always appreciated him but nothing can prepare you and no logic can help you with missing someone as much as I do so I feel for you on a new level that I would have wanted to but probably wouldn’t have been capable of before. How incredible that he was still in his apartment and how wonderful to have loving family visit and show they care. Let’s raise a toast to our Dads this summer - they will never be forgotten.
- Hi thinking of you all please give everyone my love and prayers, especially Birgit I am thinking of you. So sorry for your loss, he had a great life and had a good loving family, I will miss him much even though we were not that close in body but in my heart I loved him. You and everyone are on my mind. Love from the kid he always called me, Love always.
- Our loving thought and prayers are with you at this time. Did Uncle Read have a favourite charity that we could make a donation in his name to? Thank you for letting us know.
These are the notes that came in by email; there have been cards and phone calls. So blessed to have this support.
ReplyDeleteHi Gerrie, what a lovely tribute to your dad. I saw the remark about the two children bringing the flowers. I will be sure to show them when I see them next. I think the blog is amazing. Well done Cameron. That’s a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad the flowers brought you a little bit of joy during this time. It’s always tough to lose a parent at any age. I lost both of mine along time ago.
Thanks so much for sharing Gerrie.. what a wonderful blog that Cameron created! I enjoyed reading about your Dad’s life too, he led such an interesting life in many places, a life well-lived and it is obvious that he was well-loved.
ReplyDeleteIt was so emotional for me to be reading all the kind words, you and your family received from all your friends and relatives, remembering your father's very long and full life. He was loved, and will be in your hearts forever. There is not a day goes by that I don't think of my sister.
